Monday: It’s not about the building! vv 1-4
‘As Jesus was leaving the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Look, Teacher! What massive stones! What magnificent buildings!” v1
We have a wonderful building in our church, don’t we? We could stand outside it on a Sunday morning and talk about how magnificent it is just like the disciples did about the temple. This was the prophesy given about it:
“If you build this as your castle and pull up your drawbridge once you are inside, I will make it so your castle is as a mound of earth, and people will trample it who neither know or seek God or care about its purpose.
If you build a house with wide windows and wide open door and always love those who come more than the dwelling itself, I will make this house as though it were a shining palace and my glory will be there.”
Castle or house??
Tuesday: Pray for those at war and in distress. vv5-8
‘Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth-pains.’ v8
This week, we’re going to pray through this passage. Today, pray for those who are the victims of war, earthquake and famine. Ask God what we, as individuals and as a church, can do to make a difference.
Wednesday: Pray for those persecuted for their faith. vv9-19
‘Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worry beforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit.’ v11
Pray for those who are being persecuted for their faith and their willingness to speak out the Gospel. Pray too that we will be open to the Holy Spirit speaking through us in the places we live and work so that the gospel is made known to those around us.
Thursday: Pray for protection from false prophets. vv20-27
For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.’ v22
Pray that God will keep our eyes open and fixed on him so that we won’t be led astray by people who claim to be His but come with their own agendas. Pray too for those who have been deceived and chosen to serve other Gods, that Jesus will make himself known to them.
Friday: Therefore keep watch! vv32-37
‘Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back—whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the cock crows, or at dawn.’ v35
Pray for unity within the Christian church across the world. Pray that we will be able to sort out our differences and work together as the body of Christ so that Jesus is honoured through us. Pray that we will be ‘good and faithful’ servants and will be found ready when the time comes.
